114 x 80 cm

Pencil on paper

During the course of this work's completion, there was a sense of blossoming in my own life, a shift that cleared the noisiness that’s been following me this past year. I wanted to capture that state of noise and look at what it means to grab hold of the self in those moments.

The juxtaposition of the horns and the flowers offered room to explore how something barren, defensive and coarse might foster an unexpected softness. I liked the balance of something destructive and aggressive providing space for fragility to grow and flourish.

The anxious vibration is mirrored in the vibration of the hummingbird, offering two ways of looking at the same moment. The figure is simultaneously disrupted and at peace, centred and swept up in the vibrations that surround them.
